Newt Gingrich Is Coming to ‘Parks and Rec’

Parks and Recreation is racking up an impressive roster of real-life politician guest stars. Joe Biden and John McCain each cameoed on the show earlier this year, and now, ex-Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich will be appearing in an upcoming episode, the Indy Star reports. The Parks and Rec gang was filming a scene at St. Elmo’s Steak House in Indianapolis with the male contingent of the show’s cast when Gingrich happened to be there. Showrunner/co-creator Michael Schur “quickly huddled with the episode’s writer and director to incorporate Gingrich into the script.â€Â While in Indianapolis, the Parks and Rec guys also took this photo (and presumably filmed a scene) with the Indianapolis Colts, so they’ve all had a pretty exciting Midwest shoot so far. Parks star Rob Lowe tweeted about the Gingrich run-in: “Latest surprise drop by on set: Speaker Newt Gingrich! So we made up a scene and put him in!! #AllHappeningInIndy.†With the NBC sitcom all of the sudden becoming a hot spot for cameos from the country’s best-known politicians, how long before Michael Schur and his Parks crew are able to snag a Barack Obama cameo?
