Bridesmaids and Pitch Perfect star Rebel Wilson has just been tapped by MTV to be the host of the network’s 22nd annual MTV Movie Awards next year. The ceremony is set to air on April 14th and sees the trend of MTV using a comedian to host the awards show continue. Russell Brand hosted last time and was preceded by Jason Sudeikis, Aziz Ansari, Andy Samberg, Mike Myers, and Sarah Silverman before him. Prior to that, the MTV Movie Awards were in a weird era where they hired people like Jessica Alba and Lindsay Lohan to host. Rebel Wilson, who hails from Australia, has been keeping especially busy lately. She’s writing a movie for Universal that she’ll star in if it gets made, has a supporting role in Michael Bay’s bodybuilding action movie Pain & Gain, is in talks to star in Pitch Perfect 2, and just made Forbes magazine’s “30 Under 30†power list. On top of all that, she’s writing and starring in an ABC sitcom pilot called Super Fun Night that Conan O’Brien is producing. With the MTV Movie Awards on her schedule now too, it doesn’t leave Wilson a lot of time to sleep.
Hit the jump for a new trailer for the MTV Movie Awards that aired last night during the Jersey Shore finale. It stars Rebel Wilson and also features her Bridesmaids co-star and real-life roommate Matt Lucas:
