“It’s really a question I have. I think there’s something that I can bring to a comedy today, but I don’t know where to bring it,†he says. “I’ve actually thought about having a manager again. Just to clear my head and have a plan.†He pauses, as if working it out in his mind. “Eh, it’s not that attractive to have a plan. I know that if I ever feel that I need to make a funny movie, I’ll figure out how to write one. I’ll get it done. If I ever get some ambition, I’m gonna get some shit done.†He does a mock-offended eye roll/blink. “What? It could happen.â€
Bill Murray has made a lot of really great movies in the past decade, but none of them are comedies in the traditional sense — at least not like his early work in movies like Stripes, Ghostbusters, and Groundhog Day. In the new GQ profile on Murray, he ponders this:It’s true that it’s tough to picture Murray in one of today’s big-budget mainstream comedies like The Hangover or Bridesmaids, and he seems to have really found his sweet spot in non-comedies that happen to be funny. But boy, what would you give to see Bill Murray star in a straight-up comedy that he wrote himself? Bill, make it happen. If you feel like it, that is. Otherwise, just keep doin’ what you’re doin’. I think it’s safe to say that people are on board either way.
