Rumors of a Chris Rock/Dave Chappelle stand-up tour have been circulating for over a year now, but it’s looking like more and more of a possibility after the two comedians performed together last night in New York and discussed the possibility onstage. The Comic’s Comic has an in-depth report about the duo’s unannounced dual stand-up performance at The Comedy Cellar after midnight last night. Chappelle took the stage for 40 minutes of solo stand-up (unannounced) before Rock hopped up. The two riffed together into the wee hours of the morning, and even ended up calling Arsenio Hall and Lenny Kravitz and texting Jay-Z to go get spaghetti with them in the middle of the night - a wacky idea Chappelle had.
Rock and Chappelle even ended up discussing the possibility of touring together while onstage. Here’s an excerpt (via The Comic’s Comic):
“Come out to Oakland,†Chappelle told Rock.â€You should come down to West Palm,†Rock replied.Chappelle: “After next Tuesday, I’m free for like 11 years.â€Rock said he has a new movie of his own he’s going to film later this spring and would be cutting it over the summer. “I’ve got time between now and the movie … By Halloween, I could do dates.â€
Past reports of the Chris Rock/Dave Chappelle tour have said that Rock had been the one trying to talk Chappelle into doing it, but from the conversation onstage, it seems like Chappelle is interested. Stay tuned for updates. This might just be what all of stand-up comedy has been building towards this whole time.
