Comedy hero Chris Elliott’s next movie is a pretty surprising one: a Hugh Grant rom-com. THR reports that Elliott has joined the cast of an untitled independent romantic comedy starring Grant and Marisa Tomei. J.K. Simmons, Bella Heathcote, and Allison Janney also play supporting roles in the movie, which follows an Academy Award-winning screenwriter (Grant) who hits hard times and has to teach screenwriting at a university, where he falls for a single mom student (Tomei). Elliott will play a Shakespeare professor and Hugh Grant’s nextdoor neighbor who’s looking for love. The movie is being written and directed by Marc Lawrence, who made previous Hugh Grant rom-coms like Two Weeks Notice, Music and Lyrics, and most recently, Did You Hear About the Morgans?  Chris Elliott will next be seen in the third season of his Adult Swim series Eagleheart, which probably won’t feature any charming, bumbling Englishmen.
