Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo — also known as Daft Punk — sure know how to maximize the hype around their forthcoming, already hotly anticipated Random Access Memories. A few weeks ago on SNL, the minute-long snippet for “Get Luckyâ€Â — the only thing we’ve heard off of Memories so far — popped up out of nowhere. Since then, the names of the album’s special guests have been slowly emerging with the help of a Vice Creators Project series called “Collaborators,†which is profiling a different Memories collaborator each week. These guests were supposedly sworn to secrecy when working with Daft Punk — but then last night at Coachella happened.
In between sets, an extended trailer for “Get Lucky†premiered on the Californian festival’s big screen. Already-confirmed guest Nile Rodgers and Pharrell Williams (who donned a Michael Jackson-esque glitter suit for the occasion) appeared alongside Daft Punk to sing the high vocals and play guitar for the new track. The main line of the chorus — “We’re up all night to get luckyâ€Â — was repeated to the album’s retro-flashy insignia and a showcase of Memories guest list scrolled onto the screen. So, now it’s official: In addition to Williams, you can expect to hear Julian Casablancas of the Strokes, Panda Bear of Animal Collective, DJ Falcon, Chilly Gonzales, Paul Williams, Giorgio Moroder, and Todd Edwards on the new Daft Punk album. Are you pumped yet?
