More than a year after casting Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Reynolds in what was set to only be a Tim Burton production, Big Eyes has shifted gears. Now Burton will direct, and Christoph Waltz and Amy Adams have taken over the lead roles of Walter and Margaret Keane, a real-life couple whose signature wide-eyed paintings of children became a huge commercial art sensation in the fifties and sixties. “While Walter was the marketing genius, he also took the bows for doing the brush work,†Deadline writes. “He was a full fledged celebrity, a regular on the TV talk show circuit. His shy wife was the actual artist in the family.†The film will, at some point, feature a courtroom paint-off between Waltz and Adams. Written by Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski (Ed Wood, Man on the Moon), Big Eyes is set to begin production this summer.
