Review Roundup: Critics Like ‘Hangover III’ Less than the First Two

The third and – as the posters promise – final installment in the The Hangover franchise was released to theaters today, and the reviews have been pretty harsh. As of this writing, the movie has a 25% rating on RottenTomatoes and a 32/100 on Metacritic, making it the worst-reviewed Hangover movie yet (the previous one earned a 34% and 44/100) and the worst-reviewed movie from director Todd Phillips yet.

The Hangover III doesn’t copy the “What the hell did we do last night?†plotline from the original like Hangover II does, which is something critics have been complimenting the movie for while not enjoying the direction the story goes instead and deeming the film “unfunny.†David Fear at Time Out London harshly writes that “Part III has curiously little interest in being even remotely funny.†Joe Williams at St. Louis Post-Dispatch sums it up nicely: “The good news is that Ed Helms doesn’t wake up in a Tijuana brothel with an amputated leg and a donkey in the room. The bad news is that you’ll wish he had.†Just about the only thing critics have praised about The Hangover III is a sequence in the end credits, so maybe just show up to the theater 90 minutes late?
