After months away from the spotlight following a February hip surgery, Lady Gaga returned to the public eye on Friday night for New York’s Gay Pride kick-off rally at Pier 26. Clutching a pride flag, Gaga addressed the crowd, saying, “We are not a niche. We are part, a big giant part of humanity. It’s time for us to be mainstream†and led everyone in a chant of “I demand the rights! To safe streets!†She then sang an equal-rights version of “The Star-Spangled Banner.â€
