Adult Swim is no longer the only late night animated game in town. This weekend, the Fox network premiered its new Saturday night 11pm-12:30am animated block known as Animation Definition High-Def (or ADHD), but rival Adult Swim snuck a couple ads onto Fox’s airwaves during the premiere.
Without Fox’s knowledge, Adult Swim bought two ads during ADHD’s premiere on several local stations in the style of Adult Swim’s lo-fi white text on a black background bumpers with easy listening music in the background. The first one read, “The preceding content has been a work of fiction. Any resemblance to networks, living or dead, is purely coincidental. Pay close attention to the label. Many suitcases look alike. You may find yourself at a beautiful network with a beautiful suitcase. You may ask yourself: How did I get here? [adult swim]†The second one: “Congratulations to the crew at ADHD on the launch of their new shows. We wish you all the best…. Nice place you got here… How are the kids?… Great, Great stuff. We’re going to go home now [adult swim].â€
ADHD responded via Twitter with “@adultswim THANK YOU FOR YOUR MONEY.†ADHD head Nick Weidenfeld, who now runs ADHD, tweeted, “We love Adult Swim and we’re happy to receive both their attention and their ad dollars!†and “WHO THE FUCK ARE THE TALKING HEADS???†ADHD’s premiere, featuring new shows Axe Cop and High School USA!, scored a 0.5 rating with adults 18-49 in the 11-11:30 chunk, a fraction of the ratings Adult Swim’s highest shows get and that MADtv used to get in the same slot, but that number is on par with Adult Swim’s average.
