Vince Gilligan is about a month away from launching the final episodes of Breaking Bad, but he’s still got a minute to chat about the potential Saul Goodman spinoff. Gilligan tells TheWrap that Better Call Saul is “not a done deal yet, but it’s definitely something we’re full speed ahead on trying to get going.†The series would likely be run by BrBa producer Peter Gould, who created the character immortalized by comedian Bob Odenkirk. “We are plugging away coming up with a pitch and a take on it for the network and studio and hopefully everyone will agree that there’s a really fun show to be had here,†Gilligan says. He’s unsure if it’ll wind up being pitched as a lighter half-hour piece (“I don’t want to say sitcom-y, but a little more traditionally half-hour comedicâ€) or a more dramatic hourlong version that “fits more snuggly in with the Breaking Bad universe.â€
Gilligan is also mum on whether the Saul show would take place before or after Breaking Bad. Not only mum, though — vaguely menacing, as well: “I have to be coy as to whether it even could be a sequel. Because you never know, when the dust settles at the end of our final eight episodes, where everybody’s gonna be and who’s gonna be left standing.†Stay safe, Saul!
