Arrested Development’s Jeffrey Tambor is set to star in his second pilot for Amazon’s streaming service. Tambor previously starred in Onion News Empire, a critically-acclaimed pilot from The Onion that debuted with Amazon’s first batch of original pilots this spring. Deadline reports that Tambor will be playing the lead in a new Amazon comedy called Transparent, written by Six Feet Under alum Jill Soloway and also starring Gaby Hoffman (Veronica Mars movie). The pilot follows Mort (Tambor) who gathers his three adult kids (Hoffman and two uncast roles) for a serious talk. They think he’s going to be discussing his inheritance with them, but he reveals he’s been secretly living as a transgender person for years. Soloway will write, direct, and produce the project.
Amazon hasn’t officially made a decision as to the fate of Onion News Empire and Tambor is still under option for that show. If Amazon opts to pick up both Transparent and Onion News Empire, Tambor is expected to do both series.
