Last night ended John’s Oliver’s reign as the Daily Show host, during which time — exactly 32 episodes spanning June 10 to August 15 — the new host had offered a number of excuses for Jon Stewart’s absence (in actuality, he is directing a film called Rosewater). There was his skyline tightrope walk across the Grand Canyon, his embryonic period inside Kate Middleton’s belly, and his watermelon-smashing contest, among others.
