After leaving Robopocalypse in January, Steven Spielberg has bailed on his second blandly titled film of the year, exiting the Bradley Cooper–starrer American Sniper. Here are some purely speculative reasons why Spiels might have departed: He’s decided to direct The Grapes of Wrath instead of just producing; he’s reviving Robopocalypse; he successfully begged Safety Not Guaranteed helmer Colin Trevorrow to turn over the reigns to Jurassic Park 4; he wants to move out of producing and into directing for Under the Dome’s second season; he’s picking up speed with that Stanley Kubrick–scripted Napoleon project. Who knows.
