The Wire predated Tumblr’s surge in popularity by a year or two, so it sort of missed out on complete obsessive GIF coverage. (Google “Orange Is the New Black gifs†for comparison; that show’s been out for a month.) There is one really great, thorough Tumblr about HBO’s iconic drama, but this new one is taking things to another level — a level where a bot auto-creates one arbitrary Wire GIF per hour. Gawker astutely calls the combo of randomness and proliferation “a perfect parody of internet fandom but also, maybe, its ultimate expression.†See a few of the GIFs after the jump.
