Fun Thing to Buy of the Day: ‘Modern Family’ Season 4 Out on DVD

Just as the series snags the win for this year’s Emmy for outstanding comedy series (once again), Modern Family releases its fourth season on DVD box set. Since its premier, the ABC show has won the hearts of TV enthusiast everywhere with its hilarity as well as with its attempt to grapple with the ever-evolving meaning of what “family†really means. After the 1980s, sitcoms slowly began straying away from family settings. We saw the gang at Cheers, we saw Friends at the Central Perk, and we saw Will & Grace living it up—and down—around Manhattan. While America faced lofty issues such as gay marriage, adoption and Latino immigration, creators Christopher Lloyd and Steven Levitan wanted to highlight our changing society from inside the Dunphy family home. With its mockumentary aesthetic — which almost makes it seem like we’re watching reality TV show — this season comes complete with episodes involving under-aged drinking, arrests, in utero kareoke and even death. Check out the series President Barack Obama watches with his own family.
