Kanye West Made Up With Jimmy Kimmel, Tried to Top His Twitter Rant

“I’ve never done a publicity stunt in my life.â€

Kanye West appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live Wednesday night to make nice with the man he met at a mutual friend’s wedding, then freaked out on in a series of furious Tweets last month. The actual making up between the two was awkwardly reminiscent of middle school frenemies forced to be cordial by their guidance counselor, but they showed a photo of Yeezy with Kimmel’s dad at said wedding to prove they’re actually buds IRL. Much of the exchange was anticlimactic: Kimmel apologized, Kanye pretended it was NBD. As the Huffington Post notes, “Perhaps the ultimate irony of the entire episode? West admitted that he only watched part of the original sketch he railed against, and Kimmel admitted that it was not even that funny to begin with.â€

The real excitement came when Kimmel let Kanye do his thing, which at this point has become ranting about everything from paparazzi harassing his new family, to the first pair of Gucci slippers he ever bought, to the evolution of celebrity. He also threw in the disclaimer “I’ve never done a publicity stunt in my life,†and complained about Kim Kardashian’s inability to get a star on the Walk of Fame. Naturally, the Internet was all over that. Almost instantly, online fans created a “Give Kim Kardashian a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame!!!†petition on Change.org (it only has seven signatures so far, but surely more people will heed Kanye’s call).

Tweetable quotes about Yeezy’s artistic temperament abounded, so here’s a choice one to get the ball rolling: “I’m a creative genius, and there’s no other way to word it. I know you’re not supposed to say that about yourself. I say things the wrong way a lot of times, but the intention is always positive.â€

Maintaining his remorseful tone, Kimmel quickly agreed and order was restored in the world of 140 characters. At least until the next time the rapper gives an interview and some comedian decides seeing children swear is worth angering a genius.
