MTV has given eight-episode orders to two new comedy series, Deadline reports. Happyland will be “a soapy teen comedy which explores the underbelly of one of the country’s most popular theme parks and those who work there,†while Faking It “revolves around two best friends who will do almost anything to fit in and be popular in high school — including pretending to be something they are not.â€Â The shows will join MTV’s current comedy hit Awkward, which returns with the second half of its third season tomorrow night.
Recently, MTV has been attempting to reinvest in comedy, a genre it dominated in its early years with classics like The Ben Stiller Show, The State, and Beavis and Butt-head. They’ve found success with late night show Nikki & Sara Live but have struggled with scripted shows, canceling Zach Stone Is Gonna Be Famous, I Just Want My Pants Back, and the US remake of The Inbetweeners after one season each.
