Marvel announced today that Michael Douglas has signed on to star with Paul Rudd in the Edgar Wright-directed Ant-Man. He will be playing Hank Pym, which was actually the character people assumed Rudd was playing. Basically, Pym was the original Ant-Man, inventing the Ant-Man helmet and size-shifting serum. Scott Lang, whom Rudd will be playing, became Ant-Man by stealing Pym’s inventions, eventually deciding to use it for good, and has been the primary Ant-Man in recent history. Back in 2006, Wright told Super Hero Hype the plan would be to prominently feature both Pym and Lang, showing Pym as Ant-Man in the sixties and then flashing-forward to Lang’s journey to become the hero. The film is scheduled for a July 31, 2015 release. After reading this, do you also have Dave Matthews Band’s “Ants Marching” stuck in your head? Well, you probably do now.
