I honestly have no idea what the hell Quvenzhané Wallis is talking about in this Super Bowl video directed by David Gordon Green. I’ve watched it several times and it’s all just words. But it’s a striking clip. Until you realize that it’s for a freaking $66,900 Maserati, and then maybe you get mad that Wallis and Green are doing this commercial at all. Drive director Nicolas Winding Refn also did a spot that aired last night, this one starring a near-naked David Beckham. It’s cute and silly and non-offensive.
Also directing commercials that appeared during last night’s game were Tom Hooper, who did that Jaguar spot with Tom Hiddleston, Mark Strong, and Ben Kingsley, and John Hillcoat, who did that Coke “America the Beautiful†ad that’s getting simple-minded people angry.
