Who’s Alive and Who’s Dead on The Walking Dead?

The Walking Dead returns to AMC for the second half of its fourth season on Sunday night at 9 p.m., even though it feels like the show just had its mid-season finale. When we last saw our band of scrappy survivors, they were covered in dirt and murdering each other, same as always! The Governor had reemerged and he and his new followers attacked Rick, et al, at the prison, resulting in a complete bloodbath that destroyed the marginally functioning prison society and scattered the remaining surviving characters. Here’s your handy cheat sheet to remember who’s alive, who’s dead, and who’s MIA.

Rick: Alive. Not by much, but alive. The Governor beat the crap out of him, so he looks like hell and probably has some internal bleeding and such, and he’s been shot in the leg.

Carl: Alive. Doing fine, except for the darkness that lives within him.

Baby Judith: Totally alive, but Rick and Carl think she’s dead, since all they found was her bloody car seat. But we know better. Definitely alive.

Daryl: Alive, and maybe with Maggie.

Glenn: Alive. He made it — barely — to the school bus that drove some of the survivors to presumable safety.

Beth: Alive, but useless. Why are you a character, Beth?

Carol: Missing. In the penultimate episode of the last half-season, Rick sent Carol packing, which was a dumb move because Carol is the best. But Rick is the worst, so what do you expect?

Herschel: Dead. The Governor laboriously beheaded him.

Michonne: Alive. But maybe a little dead inside.

The Governor: Dead. Michonne stabbed him through the thorax, and then his lover Lily shot him in the head.

Maggie: Alive, but very distraught having watched her father’s execution.

Sasha: Alive.

Bob: Alive, but has been shot.

The two blonde little girls who live at the prison: Alive.

Tyrese: Alive, and maybe taking care of those two little girls.

Those other people who were with the Governor: Who cares? They are nobodies. Most of them are dead, though.
