The Newsroom won’t be back until the fall, but there are other ways to get your Emily Mortimer–on-HBO fix, namely her new miniseries Doll & Em. Mortimer and real-life best friend Dolly Wells (The IT Crowd, Peep Show) wrote and star in the semi-improvised comedy about what happens when one part of a duo becomes a famous actress and the other half becomes her assistant. The show sort of looks like Extras, but with human decency and affection and meaningful relationships and warmth.
