Back in September, Warner Bros. announced that it had acquired J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter spinoff, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, after the company’s CEO, Kevin Tsujihara, persuaded Rowling to adapt the Hogwarts textbook into an “extension of the wizarding world.†This weekend, in a new profile in the the New York Times, Tsujihara revealed that the new franchise will be a trilogy. “When I say he made ‘Fantastic Beasts’ happen, it isn’t P.R.-speak but the literal truth,†Rowling said. “We had one dinner, a follow-up telephone call and then I got out the rough draft that I’d thought was going to be an interesting bit of memorabilia for my kids and started rewriting!†There’s no word on when the first installment of the story of magizoologist Newt Scamander will be released. However, we do know that the tale, which is not a prequel or a sequel, will begin in New York, about seven decades before Harry and the gang attended Hogwarts.
