Things are awfully complicated for Mindy and Danny right now on The Mindy Project, and while Chris Messina has had to answer to fans about Danny’s behavior, Mindy Kaling is kind of loving the blowback. “I actually spoke to him on the phone yesterday and he was like, ‘People are giving me a really hard time,’†she told Vulture this weekend at the White House Correspondents Dinner. “And I’m like, ‘Yeah, I’m fucking happy — for once, you get to feel what it’s like to be on the other side of this!’ Because every girl wants Danny Castellano to be their boyfriend, and we finally get to see Danny Castellano as a messed-up handful.†And now it’s Danny’s turn to pine — or, to put it in terms you might understand from Kaling’s previous show: “On The Office, it is so much better to be Jim than Pam, because Jim is the underdog,†she said. “It’s always better to be the person who wants than to be the person who is wanted. I am the sort of person who only knows what it means to want.â€
