Seth MacFarlane may be going to court over a teddy bear. According to THR, a California production company called Bengal Mangle Productions has filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against the comedian and Universal over the concept behind his hit 2012 film Ted, claiming that the vulgar womanizing teddy bear character was stolen from their 2008 screenplay-turned-web series called Acting School Academy and Charlie the Abusive Teddy, which starred a strikingly similar teddy bear named Charlie and got over 1.2 million views on YouTube, Facebook, iTunes, Funny or Die, and Vimeo.
According to the lawsuit, Charlie lives in a “human, adult world with all human friends. Charlie has a penchant for drinking, smoking, prostitutes, and is a generally vulgar yet humorous character†like Ted. The suit also alleges that Charlie and Ted “both live in a similar environment, have human friends and maintain an active social media presence.†Click through to watch some old clips of Charlie so you can reach a verdict for yourself.
