There’s a sequel to Hocus Pocus in the works, and it’s coming from an unlikely source: Tina Fey. The Tracking Board reports that Fey is producing an untitled Hocus Pocus sequel via her production company Little Stranger. There are currently no stars attached to the film, but it’s written for two female leads and one of them could hypothetically end up being Tina Fey if she’s interested. The original movie, a horror comedy starring Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy as three witches/sisters tormenting modern day Salem Massachusetts, wasn’t a big hit when it was released in 1993 but it went on to become very popular on home video and cable.
Here’s how the plot of the sequel was described:
The sequel will pick up years after the original, focusing on a housewife who is related to the Sanderson sisters, who teams up with a witch hunter to save her children after they run afoul of some resurrected witches while out trick-or-treating. No actors from the original film have been confirmed as returning for the sequel.
UPDATE: Deadline reports that Tina Fey is not developing a Hocus Pocus sequel, but she is developing an unrelated comedy about witches in the vein of Ghostbusters that she is attached to star in.
