Seth Meyers took the stage for his Emmys hosting duties and delivered a monologue perfectly suited to his genial wiseass persona. It was filled with industry cynicism (network TV is in its death throes!), jabs at the successful (it must suck to act on Game of Thrones because your character might die!), and Rickles-esque put-downs (TV actors, especially Ricky Gervais, are ugly!). There was also, as you might expect, extended riffing on the weirdness of the Emmys being aired on a Monday night. What, the audience didn’t read this?
