Despite the hopeful update on Tracy Morgan standup Neal Brennan shared last week, Morgan’s lawyer wants to make it clear that the former 30 Rock and SNL star still has a long way to go in the recovery process – and a big part of that process will include his lawyer making sure Walmart takes full responsibility for the June accident that injured Morgan and friends and killed his writing partner and mentor James McNair. Appearing on Today this morning, Morgan’s lawyer Benedict Morelli noted that his client is “still struggling, but he’s a fighter and he’s had issues before that he’s fought through and he’s fighting hard.â€
As for Morgan’s lawsuit against Walmart, Morelli explained that the Walmart truck driver responsible for the crash isn’t to blame as much as a company that allows its employees to drive hundreds of miles often without reasonable amounts of sleep, which was the case with the June accident caused by driver Kevin Roper. “[Roper] works for Walmart and I’m going to show, if I have to in court, that that’s the culture, that’s what they set up,†Morelli said. “They know and, by the way, he isn’t the only driver that drives hundreds of miles to get to work. They have to make sure this doesn’t happen.â€
