Just like Netflix, Amazon has decided the best way to follow up its critically acclaimed TV shows is to start making original movies — up to 12 a year, it announced in a statement today. Unlike Netflix, it’s not cutting the big screen out entirely: The company said it planned to premiere its films in theaters and then release them on Amazon Prime “four to eight weeks†later. Whether theaters will be onboard with that is a different story, but if there’s any lesson we’ve learned in the last ten years, it’s that Amazon generally gets what Amazon wants.
