At TCA today, Netflix chief Ted Sarandos announced that Tina Fey’s new comedy Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt starring Ellie Kemper is set to premiere on March 6th. Fey, Kemper, and producer Robert Carlock also spoke to critics at TCA today, and even though Fey refused to reveal some of the show’s guest stars (“March 6th. You can see them all the same nightâ€), in a new EW interview she all but confirmed that she’ll appear in the show: “Uhhh, maaaaybe! The good thing is it’s on Netflix now, so you’d only have to wait one day. Fast forward through all of them and see if I appear.†Fey also explained how the approach to the show changed once they made the move from NBC to Netflix:
The back half of these 13, we’ve edited them with Netflix in mind. At the very least, to not be writing toward commercial breaks and editing down to rigid network timing—a half hour [slot] on network is 21 minutes and 15 seconds [of content]. And so we’d be able to put back some jokes that were cut solely to get to that timing. That said, the tone of the show is sort of set, because it was written for network. So I don’t think it’s going to take a graphic sexual turn in season 2.
