Sam Smith had a good Sunday night, taking four of the evening’s top (and televised!) honors: Best Pop Vocal Album, Best New Artist, Song of the Year, and Record of the Year. And like another bashful British soul singer, Smith wanted to thank the jerk who broke his heart and inspired his beloved In the Lonely Hour. “I want to thank the man who this record is about, who I fell in love with last year,†said Smith. “Thank you so much for breaking my heart, because you got me four Grammys.†Smith is definitely winning this breakup.
