For the tenth nonconsecutive week on Billboard’s 200 chart, Taylor Swift’s 1989 has surged to No. 1. The site underlines that Swift’s the second woman in history to have multiple albums reach ten weeks at the top. T. Swift joins Whitney Houston, who notched the milestone with three albums: her eponymous debut (1986), Whitney (1987), and The Bodyguard soundtrack (1992–93). Swift’s other double-digit album was Fearless, which reigned as No. 1 for 11 weeks from 2008–09. Swift nailed the feat after tallying 71,000 1989 sales last week — a figure that’s not particularly high for a No. 1 contender, which is usually in the six-figure ballpark. (But — calm down — it was enough for history.) The other musicians in this elite chart club include the Beatles (with four albums), the Kingston Trio (three), Elvis Presley (three), Henry Mancini (two), and the Monkees (two). Judging by her tweet this morning, Swift is either brushing aside the news, bumping “Backseat Freestyle,†playing with her adorable kittens, or continuing her plot for further chart domination. Or maybe all of the above, because life’s a beach and she’s a tsunami.
