Netflix continues to forge on into the world of film: The network has acquired Special Correspondents, written and directed by Ricky Gervais and starring Eric Bana, for 2016. In a very Gervais-ian role, Bana plays an arrogant radio journalist who fakes front-line war reports from the comfort of his Manhattan apartment. Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos called it “classic Ricky Gervais†for its biting, satirical bent. Gervais, meanwhile, kissed the ring of Sarandos, calling him the “new Godfather of entertainment.†We’re thinking it’ll be like Shattered Glass, only older, funnier, and less maniacal.
