Michael Bay, who is working on a Benghazi movie called 13 Hours, will tentatively return to the multi-billion-dollar-grossing movie franchise based on the Reagan-era toy line. While speaking with Collider, Transformers 4 star Mark Wahlberg said that Bay is going to direct Transformers 5:
Collider: Do you have any update on the status of Transformers 5? Have you heard anything about what’s going on?Â
Wahlberg: I don’t. Just that Akiva [Goldsman] and those guys are starting to write and break stories, and stuff like that. But [Michael] Bay is in Malta shooting Benghazi, and I’m in New Orleans shooting Deepwater. We’ll get together when he gets back.Â
Do you think he’ll still ultimately direct it?Â
Wahlberg:Â Yes.
There’s not much room for ambiguity in Wahlberg’s terse reply, but we’ll see what happens when the script — “script†— for Transformers 5 is finished.
