The Spoils Before Dying kicked off its six-episode run on IFC last night, and while it might not be the biggest surprise in the world, it turns out that Kristen Wiigâs talents even extend to delivering perfectly executed jazz ditties, like the above song âBooze and Pills.â Hereâs what series creators Matt Piedmont and Andrew Steele told us about Wiigâs performance:
You mentioned how Maya Rudolph makes sense because of her singing talent, but after watching the first episode Iâve got to say: Kristen Wiig is an amazing singer! I know sheâs talented, but I was shocked.Steele: Iâve gotta be honest: It shocked us too. And by the way, that song was hardly worked out. She hardly had any time to rehearse it. She walked into a booth, sang it, and improvâd the end of it, in key, in front of us. We were literally blown away.
Piedmont: And she sings another song in a later episode that I think is even a better song, and sheâs even more skilled at it. And I wonât spoil it, but she has another skill as well youâll be maybe shocked to know that she has. But sheâs a brilliant singer and she nailed two songs in an afternoon, and itâs like a revelation. Like Steele said, we both knew that she couldnât be more talented, but the fact that she literally came in there and nailed a very complicated jazzy song right away was a miracle.
