Second City has announced its first live comedy shows since a fire destroyed its offices last month. In a press release today, the Chicago improv theater revealed that it’s set to resume shows at its Mainstage Theatre three weeks after the August fire beginning with a special performance for the Chicago Fire Department this Thursday, September 17th at 8:00pm. Additionally, UP Comedy Club will resume performances on September 22nd and all classes will take place at Tribeca Flashpoint College, Fourth Presbyterian Church of Chicago, and Columbia College “until further notice.†Through the end of September, donations will be collected at the end of all performances for the Chicago Fire Department Gold Badge Society.
“We are so excited to be headed back to Old Town to begin performances this week,†said Second City CEO/executive producer Andrew Alexander on the news. “We are grateful for everyone’s support and assistance – the City of Chicago, the Chicago Fire Department, The Hartford, Piper’s Alley, all of the contractors, the Chicago improv and theater community and all of our friends and neighbors that have helped us through this process. In an unfortunate circumstance, we have been very fortunate.â€
