Standup and Chicago native Patti Vasquez has a new show in the works at ABC. Deadline reports that the network is developing a multi-cam comedy from Vasquez and former Cristela writer Emilia Serrano called The Better Half inspired by Vasquez’s family that follows “a Mexican-American working mother who is a well-intentioned and sometime-misguided citizen disrupter. She tackles the small and large injustices around her for the greater good, even though many times no one asks her to. Her well-meaning actions create consequences that affect her career, community, and her home life in the crowded Chicago Brownstone that she shares with her parents, husband and children.†Serrano will write and co-executive produce, and Vasquez is attached to possibly star. Should the project get a series order, it will make the first network sitcom created by two Latinas.
