America’s brilliant-but-complicated trial attorneys took a break from sharing lighthearted banter with just a hint of sexual tension this week to celebrate the news that Amazon officially picked up Trial, the new show from David E. Kelley, TV’s most accomplished practitioner of the legal dramedy. Trial will star Billy Bob Thornton as a disgraced lawyer looking to make a comeback by standing up for the little guy; he’ll be joined by William Hurt, Olivia Thirlby, Maria Bello, and Molly Parker, all of whom will likely make out with each other at one point or another. The show will premiere with a ten-episode first season, a departure from Amazon’s usual development process — a crazy strategy that might just pay off at the last minute.
