The Force Awakens continues to carry on with no regard for box-office records, according to reports, as it rapidly approaches a worldwide gross of $1 billion. The film has currently snagged $765.9 million globally and $363.5 million domestically, with the trades noting J.J. Abrams’s Episode VII will reach the ten-figure mark faster than any movie in history. That feat will likely happen this weekend, meaning TFA will have done so in 12 days. The current record holder for quickest to $1 billion is Jurassic World; it reached the milestone in 13.
THR points out that TFA currently ranks third on the list of top-grossing films in North America, behind Jurassic World ($652.3 million) and Avengers: Age of Ultron ($459 million), but that could soon change. And although James Cameron’s Avatar and Titanic are still the highest-grossing films of all time ($2.79 billion and $2.18 worldwide, respectively), Forbes projects TFA should tally a total somewhere between $1.8 billion and $2.2 billion by the end of its run and at least overtake Titanic. RIP, all old records and counting.
