As we stand at the precipice of 2016, Marvel’s anticipation-building algorithms have decided that now is the perfect time to get fans fired up about the studio’s trio of movies coming in 2017. In an interview with Empire, MCU head Kevin Feige spilled a handful of small, intricately crafted beans about Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Thor: Ragnarok, and the Spider-Man reboot. Of particular interest is Feige’s suggestion that, after popping up intermittently throughout the first Guardians, purple villain Thanos will likely sit out the sequel to rest up for Avengers: Infinity War. “I wouldn’t look too hard in this movie for Thanos,†Feige said, explaining that the film will instead be focused on adding new members to the team: “There’ve been many different incarnations of the Guardians over the years in the comics and we’ll catch a glimpse of additions over the course of the movie.†Can they get another improbably famous person to voice Cosmo the Dog? Surely some A-lister out there wants to show off their Russian accent.
As for the other two, Feige promised that the Spider-Man film would be “big and spectacular†while also “focused on the story of a 15-year-old kid,†while Thor: Ragnarok, he said, will take place “within the cosmos, which is to say, frankly, very little Earth.†Our anticipation meters have been adequately restocked. Thank you.
