The High School Musical Gang Is Still In It Together, Reuniting for a Special Telecast

The boys (and girls) are back: the High School Musical gang (Zac Efron will appear via a pre-taped segment) is getting back together to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the original movie, which premiered on January 20, 2006, and drew 7.7 million viewers, the highest ratings the Disney Channel had ever garnered up to that point. The film will air as a special telecast on January 20 at 8 p.m. on the Disney Channel, with Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale, Lucas Grabeel, Corbin Bleu, and Monique Coleman in attendance for some old-school hijinks. “Seeing the cast of High School Musical back together again reaffirms what made it special 10 years ago,†Gary Marsh, Disney Channel Worldwide president and chief creative officer, said in a press release. “It’s their optimism, their dedication, and their extraordinary talent — as a group — that made this such an exceptional movie and cultural phenomenon. Ten years later, the movie continues to delight audiences around the globe, not just for its memorable song and dance numbers, but for its universal themes that continue to resonate with fans everywhere — express yourself, believe in yourself, and always follow your dreams.â€

The original movie spawned two sequels and a musical, as well as the career of millennial sex symbol Zac Efron, who now gets billing over Robert De Niro. You can bet on it, bet on it, bet on it, bet on it that we’ll be watching this class reunion.
