A lot of people are upset about Game of Thrones’ divergences from the books, and it appears George R.R. Martin has just engineered one more. In a new interview with IGN, Martin sounds pleased as punch to reveal that the show can’t use the latest twist he’s thought up for The Winds of Winter. “It involves a couple of characters, one of whom is dead on the show but not dead in the books,†he explains. “The show can’t do this stuff, because they killed a character that I have not killed.†That’s not as big of a hint as it seems, though; as the author notes, “At this point, there are like 15 characters who are dead on the show but not in the books,†but that won’t stop us from guessing. It’s Stannis, right? It’s totally Stannis. Unless it’s Ser Barristan. Oh gawd, what if it’s Myrcella? Either way, it’s just one more thing to speculate about on Reddit. Good, we were running out of those.
