It’s as our ancient foremothers prophesied: When engaged in a battle of the sexes, your greatest ally is a a wicked backhand. According to Variety, Sarah Silverman has joined Emma Stone’s Battle of the Sexes, which of course tells the story of tennis pro Billie Jean King’s 1973 exhibition match against Bobby Riggs, and not, as you had immediately assumed from the title, the tale of some kind of blood-soaked futuristic war between man and woman. Silverman will play Gladys Heldman, founder of World Tennis Magazine and champion of women’s tennis, not an axe-wielding feminist cyber-Viking as you incorrectly assumed, again, solely from the title.
