Tom Whedon, a writer–producer on such shows as The Golden Girls, Captain Kangaroo, and The Electric Company, died Wednesday at 83. His death was confirmed by his son screenwriter and musician Jed Whedon via Instagram, with a caption that read: “We said goodbye to our dad yesterday. He passed away in relative peace surrounded by his wife, all five of his boys and their loved ones. He gave us the gift of his warmth and humor. We miss him terribly. Love you dad.†Tom was also the father of Joss Whedon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Firefly, and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) Zack Whedon (a writer on Halt and Catch Fire), Samuel, and Matthew.
