Attention Beyhive: Variety reports that HBO wants to make Lemonade an Emmy contender. Because the visual album unspooled on TV over the weekend, the cable network plans to submit Beyoncé’s latest for variety-special consideration. (The last few winners in that category include 2015’s SNL 40th Anniversary Special, 2014’s Mel Brooks tribute, and two years of Kennedy Center Honors.) Currently, the trade adds, HBO is working to see if “additional directors†Melina Matsoukas, Todd Tourso, Dikayl Rimmasch, Jonas Akerlund, and Mark Romanek can join Kahlil Joseph and Bey as credited helmers for the project. Beyoncé has twice been nommed for an Emmy to no avail: last year for the On the Run Tour, and in 2013 for the Super Bowl XLVII Halftime Show. This year’s nominations will be announced July 14 for a September 18 show, but finger-crossing begins now.
