Joel McHale Is Going to Play Chevy Chase in a Netflix Movie, More Proof We’re Not in the Darkest Timeline

Netflix is making a movie about the late National Lampoon co-founder Douglas Kenney, and today, Variety reports that Joel McHale has signed on to play Chevy Chase in the film. It sounds like a tough role — Chase was good friends with Kenney, and accompanied him on the Hawaii vacation on which he died — and does anyone know if McHale has done any research? Does he have any first-hand knowledge of the real-life person he’s playing? Maybe an idea about what it’s like to work alongside such a larger-than-life character? Hmmm. Anyway, the film is called A Futile and Stupid Gesture, based on Josh Karp’s book of the same name, and it’ll star Will Forte as Kenney and Domhnall Gleeson as his co-founder, Henry Beard. David Wain will direct.
