Between this and 13 Hours, it’s safe to say John Krasinski is looking to explore some explosive, non-comedic territory. As first reported by Deadline, Krasinski is set to star as the titular Jack Ryan in the Amazon television series Jack Ryan, adapted from Tom Clancy’s popular decades-spanning espionage novels. The drama series — which also includes former Lost co-showrunner Carlton Cuse, writer Graham Roland, and executive producer Michael Bay — will not be a “direct adaptation†of Clancy’s novels, but “a new contemporary take on the character in his prime as a CIA analyst/operative using the novels as source material.â€
Jack Ryan has yet to be greenlit, but Krasinski’s casting is likely to expedite a straight-to-series order from Amazon. In the meantime, he should give Alec Baldwin … or Harrison Ford … or Ben Affleck … or Chris Pine … a call.
