The hallmark of every episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race is when the bottom two queens have to “lip sync for their lives†in a last ditch effort to stay in the competition. And the more canonical the song, the higher the stakes become to do it justice. (Earlier we saw a lackluster performance of Gloria Gaynor’s “I Will Survive†send both queens packing.) This week, New York queen Thorgy and Southern belle Chi Chi DeVayne found themselves in the bottom two for failing to make an appropriately shady campaign ad. To our delight, this meant they had to lip sync the Dreamgirls torch song, “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going.†And yes, we’re talking about the original version by Jennifer Holliday. Sadly, despite her lip-synced protestations, one of them does have to go.
