At the beginning of (and throughout) every month, Amazon Prime and Amazon Instant Video add new movies and TV shows to their libraries. Some of these may also have previously been on Amazon, only to have been removed and then added back. For more comprehensive coverage of the best titles available on Amazon and elsewhere, check out Vulture’s What to Stream Now hub, which is updated throughout the month.
What she’s having: When Harry Met Sally (1989)
More than quarter century after its release, we’re pretty sure When Harry Met Sally redefined the modern rom-com with its endlessly quotable dialogue and the effortless chemistry of Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan. Available May 1.
Face the camera:Â Sex, Lies, and Videotape (1989)
Steven Soderbergh pioneered a new kind of indie filmmaking with this low-budget story about a married couple (Andie MacDowell and Peter Gallagher) and the weirdo who likes to film women as they discuss their sexual history (James Spader). MacDowell gives one of her best performances as woman struggling to articulate a dissatisfaction she can’t quite understand. Available May 1.
Take one down, pass it around:Â 99 Homes (2015)
After being evicted from his home due to a foreclosure, Andrew Garfield takes up a job with Michael Shannon where he forces out other residents, all to make enough money to get his own home back. It’s a horrible reality, made all the more terrifying by Shannon’s turn as a hard-edged Mephistopheles. As Vulture’s David Edelstein wrote, “99 Homes makes you understand why this swampy financial ecosystem thrives.†Available May 9.
Let’s talk about sex: Tell Me You Love Me (Season 1)
This short-lived HBO show, which follows three couples who all share a therapist (Jane Alexander), never made it past its first season, even as it drew attention for sex scenes so explicit they convinced a lot of viewers they were real. They weren’t, of course, but the drama holds up, and if anything, the fun of watching Adam Scott get a fake hand job has only increased with time. Available May 21.
Forever young:Â The Age of Adaline (2015)
Blake Lively never ages. Also, other stuff happens, but mostly someone built a whole movie around the fact that Blake Lively never ages. It’s swoony and romantic, like a Nicholas Sparks novel drank the water from Tuck Everlasting. But also, crucially, the whole concept is hilarious. Available May 27.
