The Boxcar Children Are Getting a Series of Animated Films, Because There Is No Piece of Your Childhood That Will Not Eventually Be Brought Back

The titular children.

In an effort to make sure that every book on your childhood bookshelf will eventually be turned into a movie franchise, Shout! Factory and Legacy Classics announced on Thursday that they will team up on a new series of animated Boxcar Children films, based on Gertrude Chandler Warner’s novels about four orphans who live in a boxcar and solve mysteries. The series was previously turned into a straight-to-video film back in 2014, which you can watch on Netflix. Though movies based on Waldo, Choose Your Own Adventure, and Encyclopedia Brown have lingered in development for years, the companies say they hope to make four Boxcar Children films in the next two years. That sounds like a lot, yes, but bear in mind there have been more than 140 Boxcar Children books published since the 1920s, so they’ve got to work quickly to catch up.
